Dr. Michelle Au

Georgia

Georgia General Assembly, District 50

Challenger

Georgia’s Democratic State Senator Dr. Michelle Au is the first Chinese American elected to the Georgia General Assembly, the first Asian woman elected to the State Senate, and the only pro-choice physician elected official in state government. As the only Democrat who has substantively blocked anti-abortion legislation and held Republicans accountable on gun safety bills, Michelle was targeted by the GOP during redistricting. Now, Dr. Au is running for an open house seat, District 50, to keep doing the critical work to keep all Georgians healthy and safe.

Dr. Au is a supporter of welcoming refugees and immigrants and building a robust refugee resettlement program. She grew up in New York City to first-generation immigrant parents. She graduated magna cum laude from Wellesley College in 1999 and received her doctoral of medicine degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. In addition, Dr. Au holds a Master in Public Health from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University.

She has been practicing anesthesiology for more than ten years. Dr. Au is married to Joseph Walrath, an oculoplastic surgeon, and has three children: Mack (13) and Nina (10) are attending Fulton County public schools and Cal (17) is a freshman at the University of Michigan.
