If elected, Dr. Ya Liu would be the first Asian-American elected to the North Carolina General Assembly. Dr. Liu came to the United States to pursue higher education and better opportunities. She came here with no money, no connections, and spoke very little English. Since then, Dr. Liu has earned two doctoral degrees in sociology and law and has been a supporter of refugee and immigrant communities across her city as a council woman for the Cary Town Council. Dr. Liu has served her community and learned about the many concerns and life challenges her neighbors are facing. On the council, she has been a strong advocate for business prosperity, careful infrastructure growth, public transit, senior services, and environmentally friendly policies and will seek to do these things and more in the North Carolina General Assembly.
